Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
Organize and deliver the Train the Trainers (TOT) training for youth leaders from AIESEC Viet Nam on the UPSHIFT Social Innovation Curriculum and provide content oversight for the official Bootcamp Training with AIESEC facilitators.
Background:
UPSHIFT is a social innovation and social entrepreneurship programme, designed to build skills and opportunities for adolescents and youth, especially who are disadvantaged due to gender, poverty, disability, or ethnicity. Through human-centered design, the UPSHIFT curriculum equips adolescents and young people with essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, communication, problem-solving, among other essential transferable skills. Through hands-on activities and mentorship, UPSHIFT empowers young people to develop innovative solutions to social and environmental issues that they care about, fostering a sense of agency, social purpose, and leadership. The programme aims to reach more marginalized groups, including young girls and adolescents from disadvantaged backgrounds (from rural areas, ethnic minority communities, or girls with disabilities), ensuring that no one is left behind.
UNICEF Viet Nam is committed to build up on the legacy of UPSHIFT programme in the country and further enhance its impact through a new UPSHIFT cohort in 2025, with a special focus on adolescent and young girls aged 18-24 years old, especially the most disadvantaged. This effort aims to deepen the engagement of young people through a youth-led implementation model and foster stronger connections with the private sector. AIESEC Viet Nam has been chosen to host UPSHIFT 2025 through an open call for expression of interest. This ownership and operational leadership of a non-profit youth-led organization will be pivotal in mobilizing resources, co-designing programme activities, and fostering partnerships with private sector stakeholders to enhance UPSHIFT’s relevance and sustainability, especially in the learning to earning transition.
In order to ensure the successful implementation of UPSHIFT 2025, it is essential to build up a strong team of competent trainers and facilitators from AIESEC for the programme, and ensure their readiness to facilitate meaningful experience for adolescent and young girls, especially the most vulnerable ones. As such, UNICEF requests a consultant to plan and lead the trainings of AIESEC’s trainers and facilitators to ensure the high-quality delivery of UPSHIFT facilitation materials in this refreshed co-hort.
Specific objectives include:
UNICEF Viet Nam seeks an individual consultant to coordinate and manage the TOT training for AIESEC Viet Nam’s core trainers and facilitators of the 2025 UPSHIFT programme. UNICEF will work closely with the selected consultant to ensure the technical assistance is well-delivered, with an aim to:
1. Enhance knowledge and capacity for AIESEC’s young trainers and facilitators on UPSHIFT curriculum to effectively implement the programme;
2. Ensure the quality of official UPSHIFT 2025 Bootcamp Training, including supervising and working closely with AIESEC’s young trainers and facilitators to design and deliver UPSHIFT curriculum and materials to programme participants.
Scope of Work:
Task 1: Develop training and organization plans for the TOT with AIESEC’s youth leaders to ensure its effective implementation, including logistical organization, training materials and other preparation tasks.
Task 2: Organize and deliver TOT trainings (hybrid) for 7-10 AIESEC’s youth leaders to increase their knowledge and develop their facilitation skills for the UPSHIFT curriculum (Vietnamese version).
Task 3: Work with AIESEC’s trained youth leaders and organizing committee to design/fine tune the UPSHIFT content and support its delivery during the UPSHIFT Bootcamp Training (planned to be organized for 4 days in Ho Chi Minh City) for adolescent and young girl participants.
Methodology:
The consultancy will be undertaken in Ho Chi Minh City. The consultant will work in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to UNICEF staff, AIESEC Viet Nam, and mentors/private sector engaged in the programme.
The consultancy will involve frequent communication through email exchange, telephone calls, offline meetings, and online discussions as appropriate.
Supervision and Management:
The consultant will work under the direct supervision of UNICEF’s Adolescent and Youth Engagement Officer and the overall management of UNICEF’s Chief of the Social Policy and Governance Programme. He/she will ensure a participatory process that incorporates technical perspectives and guidance from UNICEF, AIESEC, and other relevant stakeholders.
